Rumor Alert: Riddler "Confirmed" for Batman 3

The latest Batman 3 rumor might have more teeth than what has been bandied about until now. FirstShowing says that a "reliable inside source with a studio casting grid" revealed that the character of The Riddler will definitely be in the movie, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt is listed as "interested" in the role. Riddler rumors have persisted for a while now, and Gordon-Levitt has been named alongside those rumors since his appearance in director Christopher Nolan's Inception led to speculation that he might be cast in the role.

In June, HollywoodLife reported that a source close to Nolan claimed that Gordon-Levitt was on the director's "short list" for Riddler, claiming that "there was a joke at first between them [on the set of Inception] that Joseph wanted to read for Batman 3 and things heated up as filming continued." Gordon-Levitt's representatives quickly denied the rumor, while the actor laughed off the Riddler story to the UK's Press Association, calling the casting "rumors, rumors." But some rumors just won't go down easy.

Nolan admitted in June that his brother Jonathan Nolan was still "working on the screenplay," though he offered no confirmation over who the villain would be. With Nolan admitting he won't recast the Joker role that the late Heath Ledger made even more iconic, the role of the Riddler is certainly a possibility, but we'll wait for something more official than a "source" before we get too excited about it.
